Favourite Toys From The 90's

There were many toys created from the 90’s. Some kids had more money than others did so everyone had different kind of toys. Some kids had more electronic toys while others had more physical toys to run around with and throw, dress up, or even sit down and play a normal board game. Regardless of how much money your family had, every kid had a favourite toy or two. Myself, I still have several toys from when I was little. From Nintendo 64 games, to board games, to the dozens of Beanie Babies that are lying in my closet collecting dust. Even though I don’t use them, every time I see them memories of playing with them come into my head. Going through blogs or postings about 90’s toys, some of them I don’t recognize or the memories with them are faint. Even if I don’t recognize them, I still enjoy seeing what we had before and how far we have come.

This blog post puts a huge smile on my face because I can completely relate. Going through it brings flashbacks to either begging my mom to purchase it for me or actually being lucky enough to play with them.

This posting is also amazing. There are a variety of toys and different pricing ranges. Any kid could afford at least one of these toys and had equally as much fun as the ones that could afford more.

90’s dance music or EDM?

Dance music comes in various forms, from pop, to reggae to even RnB. Nowadays? The main type of dance music is called “Electronic Dance Music” or “EDM” for short. EDM generally consists of techno music that has a “beat drop”, artists like DeadMau5 or Avicii are                         known for producing electronic dance music.

(Retro House Music of the 90's, 2014)

(5 Reasons why you should call it EDM, 2013)

Personally, I feel that 90’s dance music is much better than EDM.  90’s dance music consists of songs like “Everybody Dance Now” or the classic “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice. 90’s dance music makes you want to get up and move whereas EDM can sometimes be noise to me.  EDM rarely has any lyrics to it, it mostly consists of a crazy beat, I personally prefer songs I can sing along to and dance to.EDM songs that do have lyrics tend to be repetitive and meaningless.

So which is better in my opinion, 90’s Dance music or EDM?
….Drum roll please…90’s Dance Music!

What do you like better? 90’s dance music or EDM?

Playing Polly Pockets With My Brother

So pretty much, when I was young I wasn't big on Barbies. I always got Barbies for presents since I was a girl, regardless on if I liked them or not. However, when I got birthday money, I would always beg my mom to take me to the store so we could go out and buy me that new Polly Pocket package. Since my dad was away at work, I would always play with my Poly Pockets while my mom cleaned up and got ready for bed, I would usually be in the family room playing with them. On occasion my brother would come along and sit down beside me and watch me dress them up. Before he did anything he always would say to me “I’ll never play with you again if you ever tell anyone that I played Poly Pockets with you.” I wasn't sure if he was bluffing or not so I decided not to take the risk. He would help me dress them up in the cutest things and have that girly voice. I would be constantly laughing. You know your brother loves you when he plays Poly Pockets with you.

Top Ten shows of the 90’

Everyone has a favorite TV show.....maybe five.....maybe ten. You'd be watching these shows coming home after a long day of school, the half hour before you're bus came before school, and/or enjoying a lazy Saturday watching TV all day. All I know that these were the most watched 90's shows  that were favorites of mine and many others in making you laugh and smile on a regular basis. These Best shows of the 90's are not in any particular order, but are the randomly placed top ten shows talk about from 90's kids that I have spoken with.

1. Saved by The Bell

This was by far one of the best shows of the 90's that made us laugh, cry, and learn a lot. This show gave all of us 90's kids something to look forward to in watching this show, waiting to grow up and be in high school like the gang from the show. I personally remembered watching this show every morning before I had to leave to go to my bus stop for school.

2. Boy Meets World

The hilarious 90's show that showed us everyday things we encounter in our lives as we become older and older. This show taught us life lessons as it goes through seven seasons from Cory Matthews life as a child to life in college as a married man.

3. Smart Guy

This show made us laugh constantly with ten year old T.J Henderson who is a genius trying to fit in as a sophomore in High school.

4.  Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Probably one of the best 90's show , if not the best . Will Smith a kid from Philadelphia moves in with his Mom's sister's family in their wealthy Bel-Air mansion  after getting into a fight on the basketball court. This show was known was the awesome theme song that every 90's kid know off the top of their head, Will's funny ways, the Carleton dance ,and more. Here's to one of my favorite episodes of Will and his cousin Carleton Talking for the last time.

5. Even Stevens

This show was a favorite by many where we seen the clash between brother and sister ( Ren and Louis Stevens). This show connected to many kids with siblings as they perhaps had a Ren or Louis in their family. The saying where people say I can't believe they're related.

6. Hey Arnold

This show is about a fourth grader named Arnold living in a big city with his grandparents where he encounters many problems that he and his friends have to face. This was a show that reminded a 90's of themselves at the time because we were pretty much the exact age as Arnold when you started watching it.

7. Disney's Recess

One of the most watched 90's shows, this Disney show gave us something we can relate to as we were young elementary school students. It is based on what happens outside during recess at school, showing the relations between the main six elementary school students with their classmates and teachers.

8. Arthur

Here is a show that every 90's kid has watching growing up . It encouraged the relationship of friends and family showing that everyone is different. This may be a kid being a little bigger than the kid next to him or may be someone who has asthma

9 . WWE/WWF

The action - packed and exciting WWE was in a lot of interest to us 90's kids, both males and females. It gave us something exciting to look forward either to start off the week or to end it. The World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) formerly known as the World Wrestling Federation(WWF) had shows every Monday and Friday night.

Here a link to a you tube video of a scene from the show with some of the favorite superstars from the WWE that we loved like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and the Undertaker.

10. That's So Raven

One of the most watched shows on the Disney channel about a teenager (Raven)  who is psychic and how she has to deal with situations in her life that. She sees into the future and this puts her in many funny situations where she disguises herself in order to prevent something from happening. Many of us 90's kids remembering waking up on a Saturday morning and watching this.

Two Other that we next off the list was Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z. These were popular shows growing up for us 90's kid as we grew up watching them as well as traded cards with friends during recess when we were younger.

Do you agree or disagree with this list  ? If so, post below what you exclude and/or include in the list for the best 90's shows.

Pop songs from the 90’s play games with my heart

When I was younger, I was a music fanatic-I would constantly be singing and dancing around without a care in the world…and still do. Pop songs from the 90’s were my world! My mom would always tell me how my brothers and I would be singing Backstreet Boys and *NSync songs everywhere we went, but the only song we knew really well was Bye Bye Bye by *NSync…now I know why I know all the lyrics to the song!

My brothers and I were actually versatile when it came to singing pop songs from the 90’s-we were like the next Jackson 5 (minus two of course). Our mom said we also sang songs by New Kids on the Block like Step by Step and You Got the Right Stuff-songs I still listen to today! My brothers and I still sing songs together today-whether it is *NSync, New Kids on the Block or pop songs of today’s generation, I guess old habits die hard.

Toy's Now Or Back In The 90's?

If you were a 90’s kid, you grew up with technology advancing.  You went from being eager to come home from school to chat with your friends on MSN messenger to being able to talk to your friends anywhere on your cell phone. Kids today are extremely spoiled since technology has advanced immensely since the 90’s. All kids want to do now is stay inside on their phone, gaming system or computer and play games. When I was young, I was allowed to go on the computer for an hour a day; the rest of my day was mostly outside hanging with friends or actually talking on the phone. Also, many kids play online right now. I had the time of my life just playing with my dad and I was lucky if my brother decided to play with me. Now kids can instantly have someone to play with. Rage comes along with it however. I hear kids talking about how they spent hours online and they go on about how they “pwnd all the noobs”. I talked about how my dad and I played golden eye and I actually beat him for once. That was the highlight of my day.

So what do you think? Do you prefer toys now or back in the day? I believe there was a variety of games in the 90’s and it was more of playing with a friend in person. Now, most games are done online and with people you don’t know.

Disney movies/shows taught 90's kids everything we know!

Like many kids growing up in my decade we were in love with everything Disney and were obsessed in watching all Disney movies and TV shows. We were In love with the characters, songs, the story and the messages given in the story. The Disney Channel gave us a channel to go when there was nothing on TV, knowing something good was giving any particular day!

Many 90's TV shows that we watched were favorites by many 90's kid and gave us an opportunity to learn more about the  attitude we should have and how the decisions we make in our lives can affect ours as well as others. Here's a hilarious clip from "Even Stevens" a show on the Disney Channel , where I watched almost every day! It shows him questioning a cafeteria lady in what she does for her job, in accusing her of not cooking food properly and ultimately getting people in the school calling her "Foodzilla". This episode taught myself in not to call anyone names as it could hurt them, as well as in order to do something you love you must work hard and try things out of your comfort zone to do so.

As if we couldn't get enough of the Disney Channel , they also made Movies. These amazing Disney movies gave us an opportunity for us as young kids to learn about love, family, and friendship. With Movies like The Lion King, Toy Story, The Mighty Ducks , and many more we ultimately have to give credit to the things we know today and morals we have learned from life have been from The Disney Channel and their movies.

Did you learn any valuable lessons from a favorite Disney show and/or  Disney movie?

Which music group of the 90’s was your favorite?

If you were born in the 90’s, typically you grew up with music from the heartthrobs also known as Backstreet Boys or *NSync-and probably get excited when you hear their songs today on the radio like I would. In a previous post the top 10 music groups/artists and songs of the 90’s were discussed.  Music of the 90’s was not only catchy but generally had more meaning behind the lyrics than music of today does. So, with that being said, which music group of the 90’s or songs from the 90’s were your favorite? Favorites can be anything from Mariah Carey to the Backstreet Boys; they do not have to be what is listed in the previous post. If you don’t have a personal favorite music group or song, ask a friend or family member that is born in the 90’s what their favorite music group or song of the 90’s is!

Feel free to comment your favorite music group or songs from the 90’s were your favorite!

Top Toys From The 90's

1.     Perfection
Anyone that has played this game knows the true meaning of a heart attack. For those who never got to experience this game, you had 60 seconds to place 25 different shapes into the grid. Once the 60 seconds were up the board would pop up and all of the pieces would come flying out. If you put all of the pieces in the board before the timer ran out, you won the game and saved yourself a jump scare.

2.       Little Tikes
Most 90’s experienced driving around this bad boy in kindergarten. If your parents bought this for you and let you ride it around the house, you were the coolest kid on the street.

3.       Hungry Hippos
For this game, you had 4 hippos and a lever that would make the hippo munch and you had to collect the most balls. Everyone knew that one kid that would use their hand to gather all of the balls towards their hippo.
4.       Easy Bake oven
The only time your parents would let you bake, but still have to watch over you.

5.       Skip It
You better have jumped in time or else you would be clenching your ankle for a nice 30 seconds.

6.       Nintendo 64
This is where most kids invested their time.

7.       Hit Clips
This was the cool way to listen to music.

8.       Game Boy
If you were out visiting family or were dragged out of the house by your parents, you brought your Game Boy to keep you occupied.

9.       Beanie Babies
Every kid wanted to be the kid with the most Beanie Babies. You know you had pretty much a farm of Beanie Babies and protected that tag like it was your own baby.

10.   Tamagotchi

Finally, if you don’t know what a Tamagotchi is then you definitely were not from the 90’s. Every kid that had a Tamagotchi had that thing hanging from their neck and flaunted it to all the other kids. If you saw someone else with a Tamagotchi hanging from their neck, you definitely knew there was a game to face off in. The most devastating moment of your childhood was to wake up and see that your Tamagotchi has passed away.

Favorite characters from 90’s TV show

There are many TV characters from 90's TV shows that we loved watching everyday and continuously made us laugh. There are many favorite characters from these shows that made us remember scenes from an episode even up to this day.

Probably my favorite character from a 90's TV show would be Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World. He could easily make a viewer laugh by the random and stupid things he did on a regular basis. The one thing that I absolutely loved was watching Eric annoy or do things to bother his next door neighbor and teacher Mr. Feeney. The amazing and remembering "Feeney Call" that he always did when he wanted to talk to his favorite teacher. Click the link below and enjoy watching the Feeney call!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-BB-Xk9xYY

Another character that I loved is a very famous actor today and was beginning his career when he was doing this show. The actor was Shia LaBeouf whom played Louis Stevens in the show "Even Stevens". He played the annoying little brother who always did something he wasn't suppose to that got him in trouble with school, his parents, and more. Everyone in his family is viewed as perfect compared to him and he never seems to change which I simply love.

Lastly, another favorite character of mine was Cory Baxter from the show "That's So Raven". He reminded me of myself in a way by himself loving to flirt with his older sister's best friend. They were always little lessons taught in every episode where you were taught from right from wrong. An example of this is an episode where Cory got into hangout out with a group of kids whom he eventually found out they steal from stores. He was pressured into stealing one day to become "cool" and like everyone else in the group. Cory realized what he was doing was wrong and he didn't have to do it to be cool and one day return what he stole to the store.

I believe those were my favorite characters from 90's TV shows based on how I am and youngest sibling and these characters from these memorable Disney shows reminded me of myself in some way.
Were these some of your favorite characters from the TV shows you watched? What's your favorite TV character from back in the day?
